A year ago, at the 2020 World Championships in Montreal, figure skating was supposed to present for the first time a very special prize - an ice "Oscar" and present statuettes specially made for this occasion in seven nominations.

But the championship did not take place due to the pandemic, and the ceremony migrated to a virtual format.

According to the results of the world championship of the current season, RT determines its laureates.

Most Valuable Skater

The main prize and the title of the best of the best goes to the three-time world champion in single skating Nathan Chen.

And this is the case when the title is not the main thing.

At the end of last year, the prize was awarded to two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu, and now we can honestly say that that award became a kind of tribute to the previous merits of the Japanese figure skater, and at the same time to the numerous Japanese sponsors of ISU.

If you focus on the sports component, at the 2019 World Cup, Hanyu lost almost 23 points to Chen, never outstripping him over the next two years, and in Stockholm, the gap between the two undisputed ice giants became an abyss.

Nathan is beyond competition: he is the only skater in the world capable of performing six quadruple jumps in one program (although this time he won with five).

And besides, he is the same person who continues to push Hanyu forward very powerfully.

Best Newcomer of the Season

You don't even have to choose the best debutant here: it's Yuma Kagiyama.

The silver medalist of last year's Junior World Cup and the triumphant of the Youth Olympic Games in 2020 so brazenly and at the same time beautifully burst into the holy of holies, that is, into the elite of men's single skating, displacing Chen in the short program, and Hania in the free program, which is probably not continue.

But I will nevertheless continue with a reminder: at that very junior championship a year ago, Kagiyama lost gold to Andrei Mozalev, the ward of Russian coach Kirill Davydenko.

And it definitely deserves to be awarded a special prize.

As a reminder to those who believe that everything is still ahead.

Repeat more often, guys: "I could have been in his place!"

Best coach

If the best mentor was determined by the scale and persuasiveness of his student's victory, then, probably, the prize should have been awarded to Rafael Harutyunyan - for Chen.

But ... Still, let's pay tribute to Tamara Moskvina.

Firstly, in addition to the gold medal of Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, she also has the bronze of Alexandra Boykova and Dmitry Kozlovsky.

Secondly, it is to this coach that the world owes a lot to the fact that pair skating came to life, shook itself and rushed ahead headlong.

And mind you, Moskvina, celebrating a round and very impressive date on June 26, keeps up with this race, even on high heels.

So everyone stand up, take off their hats and the Oscars in the studio!

Best Choreographer

A year ago, Shae-Lynn Bourne was named the most outstanding master of productions.

It would probably be absolutely fair if the Canadian made a double: the performances for her authorship were shown in Stockholm by the above-mentioned Chen and Hanyu, as well as Sema Uno, but personally my vote goes in favor of another representative of the maple leaf country - Lori Nichol.

Thanks to the creative genius of this specialist, two-time world champions in pair skating, Sui Wenjing and Han Cun, had a completely magical program "Rain in your black eyes", with which they won the 2019 World Championship.

The Chinese have lost the current championship with this program, but the production has not at all lost its colors from this.

However, the main argument in favor of Nikol is both of Kagiyama's programs.

You can be an arbitrarily talented junior, slide like a god, and not even make mistakes in quadruple jumps.

But in order to stand on a par with the great and be remembered by the world, something else is needed.

For example - brilliant choreographic miniatures.

Best suit

If we talk about competitions, the palm in this category should be given to American dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates for actually the very dress for free dance that was awarded the “Oscar” a year ago.

It goes on an ice dance floor so out of competition that one can only complain that over the past year not a single dance couple has come up with anything more memorable.

But the snake outfit has a very powerful competitor - Liza Tuktamysheva and her green dress for demonstration performances.

Sexy to the point of obsceneness, shining to the point of pain in the eyes, tight-fitting to such an extent that it would interfere with skating in competition.

But very suitable for Lisa.

Because to afford absolutely everything in figure skating, while remaining a queen, only she is capable.

And the green dress once again reminds of this.

Best Demonstration Program

A special prize should have been awarded in this nomination to Sasha Trusova.

And even not so much for a wonderful demonstration number, but for his rehearsal, at which the world saw for the first time a parallel quadruple lutz, performed under the stage light by Trusova and Nathan Chen.

With parallelism, the skaters did not work out too well, and judging quite impartially, Chen's Lutz left much to be desired.

Unlike the jump, which was demonstrated by the Russian figure skater.

Instagram post of the three-time world champion with the words: "Queen, teach me!"

in this case, much more valuable than the Oscar, so the virtual statuette goes to Mishina and Gallyamov for the touching number “Ghost”.

Legend

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

Lison.

Tuktik.

Empress.

In my opinion, there is no need to explain anything in words here.

It is enough to reconsider both programs from Stockholm, to lose the gift of speech and wipe away tears, looking at how the skater hangs a large silver medal around her neck.

Don't go, Lisa!

You have no idea how much women's figure skating is needed.

You give him a chance ...
