Question:

How do you teach a five year old that she is seriously ill?

Marc Blume:

We use stories to prepare Feelia for the fact that she will lose her hair because of chemotherapy and tell her, for example, that fairy tale characters once had no hair.

We have to make sure that she doesn't get scared.

But she already understands that she is sick.

Question:

That must be bad.

Blume:

Just one story: when there was still snow, we built hills and a snowman.

But Feelia just wanted to run around in the snow like other children.

Can you imagine how hard it is to tell her: "Don't do that, it won't work!"?

And how she looks at you and says: "Dad, I just want to have fun sometimes."

Question:

How do you as a family cope with the situation?
