Sergio Agüero will leave Manchester City at the end of this season.

The striker played no fewer than ten seasons with the English top club and broke various records in that period.

32-year-old Agüero announced his upcoming departure in a statement on Monday evening.

"I feel great satisfaction and pride because I played ten seasons for Manchester City," writes the Argentinian.

"That is very unusual in professional football at this time."

Agüero came to Europe in 2006 as a teenager, where he played for Atlético Madrid for five seasons before moving to City.

In Manchester he broke many records

Agüero is City's all-time top scorer and with 181 goals he is fourth on the Premier League's perennial top scorers list.

Only three Englishmen scored more often: Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole.

In addition, Agüero is the player with the most hat-tricks (twelve) and player of the month (seven) awards in the Premier League.

Together with Thierry Henry, he is the only player to score at least twenty league goals in five consecutive seasons.

Agüero wants to remain active at the highest level

Agüero won the league title four times with City, once the FA Cup and five times the League Cup.

European successes failed to materialize.

In 2010 he won the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup with Atlético.

This season, Agüero rarely comes into action for City, which is well ahead in the Premier Legaue.

Manager Pep Guardiola usually prefers Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling in the striker.

Agüero only scored one goal in eight league matches.

Argentina's 97-time international (41 goals) plans to pursue his career elsewhere.

"A new challenge is coming and I am ready to take on it with the same passion and professionalism. As always, I do it at the highest level."
