Fourth province of Raad Hammoudi at the head of the Iraqi Olympic

Former international goalkeeper Raad Hammoudi was elected president of the Iraqi Olympic Committee for the fourth time in a row during the elections held on Friday.

Hammoudi won 19 votes against 17 votes for his opponent, President of the Athletics Federation, Talib Faisal, while the selection of a team, Basem Ahmed, Adel Idan, Jamil Al-Abadi, Hurda Raouf, Ibrahim Al-Bahadli, and Hussein Al-Amidi won membership in the Executive Office.

After announcing his victory, Hammoudi said, "We seek to improve the course of Iraqi sports, and we promise to pay more attention despite the challenges we face."

The International Olympic Committee canceled the results of the previous elections that took place in mid-November, and the president of the former Iraqi Swimming Federation, Sarmad Abdul-Ilah, won its presidency after submitting appeals to these results in the Iraqi courts.

A judicial committee assigned by a tripartite committee formed with the approval of the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports to oversee the committee's tasks temporarily excluded seven candidates from the run-off election from which the Executive Office emanates, for separate reasons, which sparked controversy because the decision was taken 24 hours before the elections.

This is the fourth time that Hammoudi (68 years old) has been elected to the post of chair of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, since he won for the first time in the elections that took place in 2009.
