It will be the first qualifying game for the World Cup in Qatar next year.

The national team is fighting for points in the race for the World Cup in Haiti on Thursday.

But the trip began with a shock for the team from Belize.

After landing in Port-au-Prince, the team was attacked in Haiti.

The bus of the players, coaches and supervisors was stopped on the way from the airport to the hotel by men with assault rifles on motorcycles, said the football association of the Central American country.

The bus was accompanied by four police officers for security reasons.

They had to negotiate for a long time with the attackers to enable the national team to continue their journey.

“It's a situation the team should never have gotten into.

Fortunately, the players are now safe in the hotel, ”said the message from the Belize Football Association.
