China News Service, March 23. On the 23rd, Beijing time, the NBA Lakers officially announced that the team's legend Elgin Baylor had passed away at the age of 86.

Baylor was the No. 1 pick in 1958 and played for the Lakers in all 14 NBA seasons. He is the famous "uncrowned king" in league history.

He was selected to the All-Star 11 times and the All-NBA team 10 times.

  Baylor averaged 27.4 points and 13.5 rebounds per game throughout his career.

After moving with the Lakers from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960, Baylor led the team to the Finals 8 times, but never won, during which time he lost to the Celtics three tie-breakers.

In 1962, Baylor once created a single game of 61 points in the finals.

  According to NBA official sources, Lakers owner Jenny Buss issued a statement regarding Baylor’s death: “Elgin Baylor was the superstar of his time, and his many honors illustrate this. More importantly, he is a superstar. Very upright man, he is one of the greatest players in the history of the Lakers."

  After the Lakers ended his playing career, Baylor had coached the New Orleans Jazz for three seasons, and dismissed after a poor record.

Since then, he served as the general manager of the Clippers from 1986 to 2009. After the Clippers scored 47 wins and reached the Western Conference semifinals in the 2005-06 season, Baylor was elected the league's general manager of the year.
