A recently published survey shows that 53 percent of Germans over the age of 18 have a body mass index (BMI) of more than 25.

The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced the figures.

This means that the proportion of people who are overweight has increased in recent years.

In 2005, 50 percent of adults were still considered overweight.

However, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is ideal.

Accordingly, most Germans should lose weight.

Because the more overweight, the greater the risk of secondary diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes or heart attacks.
