Bayer 04 Leverkusen parted ways with coach Peter Bosz.

The new coach is the former Stuttgart and Hamburg coach Hannes Wolf.

Peter Hermann (69), who worked as a player, assistant and interim coach for Bayer for 29 years, will return as his assistant coach.

"In view of the development of football in the past few weeks, we have come to the conclusion that the separation from Peter Bosz can no longer be avoided," says Sport Director Rudi Völler, explaining the move.

Bayer had gambled away almost everything in the past few weeks.

Bosz, in office since January 2019, was only able to win four of 17 competitive games in 2021.

The club failed in the DFB Cup at the fourth division club Rot-Weiß Essen, dropped out of the Europa League against Young Boys Bern and fell to sixth place in the Bundesliga after several defeats.

At the turn of the year the team was still in second place.

Völler: “The 3-0 draw at Hertha BSC on Sunday was unfortunately characteristic, our team has recently fallen into the same pattern over and over again.

We didn't manage to put an end to the repetitive mistakes and get back on the road to success.

After a factual and very open analysis of the sporting situation, we therefore agreed to make a cut, despite the great appreciation for Peter Bosz. "

Rapid crash at BVB

For Bosz it was the second stop in the Bundesliga.

In 2017 he took over Borussia Dortmund as the successor to Thomas Tuchel.

After a furious start, the team crashed rapidly, so that the Dutchman was released again in December.

His successor in Leverkusen most recently worked for the DFB as a U-18 coach.

Hannes Wolf had previously coached the teams of VfB Stuttgart, Hamburger SV and the Belgian first division club KRC Genk.

“I am very pleased about the trust placed in me,” said the 39-year-old: “Leverkusen has been one of the most attractive addresses in German football for many years.

We all have opportunities to get into international business. "
