32-year-old Sanne Troelsgaard, with 150 international caps for Denmark, has during her career felt that she has never been able to talk about pregnancy and children.

Now the midfielder chooses to open the lid that she experienced as closed.

- Pregnancy and children are so taboo that you hide it instead of focusing on it.

And I myself have contributed to the discussion about it being hidden.

If it had been an open question, I think I could have gotten pregnant while playing football.

Now I fear that it may be too late to wait until the career is over, Troelsgaard says to TV2.

The attacker believes that many at her age have stopped earlier than necessary due to pregnancy.

And Troelsgaard hopes that there can be a change in the contracts for female football players.

Want a longer contract

- When you are an elite athletic woman and are of childbearing age, it should not be a taboo subject.

I wish I was so confident and could make demands on the length of the contract.

To sign a four-year contract instead of a two-year one, and that means I want to get pregnant in the meantime.

Troelsgaard joined the Damallsvenska top team Rosengård in early 2017, she first signed for six months.

Since then, she has extended her contract three times, with a maximum of two years.
