Memphis Depay may not be available this month during the two away games of the Dutch national team in the World Cup qualifying series against Turkey and Gibraltar.

The Orange International must be quarantined due to French guidelines if he plays in countries outside the European Union.

French clubs therefore do not want to give up their players.

According to the current corona guidelines of the French government, players from the French Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 - who will play in countries outside the European Union in the coming international period - must be quarantined for seven days when they return.

For that reason, the French clubs have unanimously agreed to a measure by the French Football Association that prohibits players from playing international matches outside the European Union.

That decision has consequences for Memphis, among others, given that Turkey and Gibraltar do not belong to the EU.

Should Memphis come into action in those countries, Lyon will have to miss him in the next game after the international period.

The KNVB has therefore applied for dispensation from the French Football Association, so that the attacker does not have to be quarantined when he returns and Lyon can 'just' give him up.

Memphis: 'It's very weird'

Memphis said on Friday at the press conference prior to Olympique Lyon-Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday that it is not happy with the measure taken by the French Football Association.

"It's very strange. In Kazakhstan, where France will play, there are more corona cases than in several African countries."

"Everyone at Lyon hopes to be able to join their national team. We have to make sure that decisions for the next international matches are taken in harmony," the right leg continues.

"I just hope that we can report to our national selections."

In the coming international period, the Dutch national team will play in the World Cup qualifying series against Turkey (away, on March 24), Latvia (at home, on March 27) and Gibraltar (away, on March 30).

Without dispensation, Memphis can only take action against Latvia.
