Insulting comments against a comedian who overthrows the director of the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony

The technical director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics, Hishori Sasaki, announced today his resignation from his post, due to his humiliating comments against a comedian in his country where he suggested that she appear in the form of a "pig", weeks after the resignation of the head of the organizing committee of the Olympiad due to insulting statements to women.

Sasaki announced his decision after revealing a report yesterday about a suggestion he made in March 2020, according to which Naumbi Watanabe, a well-known fat comedian in Japan who is very popular on social media, appears at the opening ceremony as "Olympieg" (Big = Pig (E) wears pig ears.

Yoshiro Mori resigned from his post as chair of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee last month due to abusive remarks on women and was succeeded by former Olympic Games Minister Seko Hashimoto.

Sasaki apologized in a statement from Watanabe, stating that what he had said was inappropriate.

"My suggestion is a great insult to Naomi Watanabe. This cannot be undone. I sincerely apologize for that, and I deeply apologize to her and to everyone who bothered this issue," he said.

Watanabe said in a statement that she was shocked by Sasaki's comments, adding that "joking about the outward appearance is never appropriate," as she confirmed that she would work to find an alternative to Sasaki quickly.
