Reichelt's greatest merit is the World Cup gold in super-G in Beaver Creek in 2014. He also won a World Cup silver in super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen 2011. It was his only championship medal since his debut season in 2003. Reichelt has had recurring knee injuries and back problems.

He injured his knee in a downhill crash in December 2019 and was not selected for the World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo last month.

He had also not qualified for the World Cup final in Lenzerheide, but said goodbye to teammates, competitors and friends on the tour by riding alone in the super-G track.

The fog stopped the competition so Reichelt in the lederhosen was all that was offered in Lenzerheide.

Bragdseger in Kitzbühel's downhill race 2014

- I had to fight more and more to reach the level I want to keep.

For me, it was quite a given: I want to be able to compete fully or not at all, Reichelt says to AP.

At the finish line, he was spray-painted with bubbles and also provided himself with a few sips of general cheering among the few who were nearby during these pandemic times.

Perhaps his biggest victory in his career was in the classic downhill race in Kitzbuhel, the Hahnenkamm race, where he won in front of tens of thousands of fans at home in 2014 despite major back problems.

He barely managed to stand after the finish.

The next day he had his back operated on and missed the Olympics in Sochi.

They finished 44 podium places in the World Cup, where 13 of them were wins.
