The Sweden coach has put an end to the suspense.

After almost five years of international retirement and three months away from the Euro, Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return, at 39, to the Swedish national team for the World Cup-2022 qualifiers from the end of March, announced, Tuesday March 16, coach Janne Andersson.

The star striker of AC Milan, who had retired internationally after Euro-2016, is called up for the qualifying matches for the World Cup-2022, as well as for a friendly match.

"The return of God," reacted the former Paris Saint-Germain player with his inimitable style in a message posted on social networks showing him with the Swedish jersey.

Ibrahimovic's return to the Swedish team was announced in early March by local media, but the Swedish federation had not confirmed the information.

For his part, "Ibra", absent from the field since the end of February, continues to treat an injury to the left adductor, hoping to be back on the lawns with Milan on Thursday, against his former club Manchester United in the second leg. of the Europa League.

Since his withdrawal from the national team, the striker - 116 caps and 62 goals on the clock with the Blagults ["Yellow and blue", nickname and colors of the Swedish national team] - regularly made calls with the foot for a possible back to selection.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic "missed" Sweden jersey

Things took a different turn this fall, however, after the player told reporters that he "missed" wearing the Swedish side's yellow jersey.

Ibrahimovic then met coach Janne Andersson for a meeting described as "good and fruitful" by the Swedish football association.

Without Zlatan, Sweden reached the quarters of the World-2018 and qualified directly for Euro-2020, postponed to June and July 2021 because of Covid-19.

They will face Spain, Poland and Slovakia (group E) in the group stage.

Before the Euro and the preparation matches, the "Blagults" will therefore play two qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, at home against Georgia on March 25 and in Kosovo on March 28, as well as a friendly match against Estonia on March 31, again at home.
