The Parisiennes have indeed validated their ticket for the quarter-finals of the Champions League… by losing 3-0 on the green carpet against Sparta Prague, after winning 5-0 in the first leg.

The return match, scheduled for Wednesday, was canceled due to contamination with Covid-19 on the side of the Parisians, nevertheless qualified for the quarters.

“Our players will ultimately not play the second leg of the knockout stages of the Champions League against PSG scheduled for Wednesday.

The reason is the forty or so PSG players who tested positive for Covid-19, ”the Czech club announced on its website.

“After an agreement between the clubs and UEFA, Sparta won their home game 3-0 by default.

Nevertheless, the accumulated score means that our opponent qualifies for the quarter-finals, ”he added.

A PSG-OL in quarterfinals

The information, not yet confirmed by PSG, has not given rise to any official communication from UEFA, organizer of European competitions.

If confirmed, the Parisiennes would qualify for the quarter-finals for the benefit of their pocketed 5-0 victory on March 9 against the Czechs at home.

In the next round, they will face their rivals from Lyon, five-time title holders (April 23-24 and March 30-April 1).
