Hammarby's match in the Swedish cup against Trelleborg, which was supposed to have been played on Saturday, had to be postponed due to corona infection in Hammarby.

The club's training facility in Årsta has been closed down and it is now confirmed that further positive cases have been discovered.

A total of 21 people have tested positive and the entire squad is kept in quarantine.

- We got the first case confirmed at the beginning of the month, and that player was of course isolated immediately.

Last week, more players showed symptoms, and it was March 11-12 that we got the majority of cases confirmed.

From the tests that were done yesterday, we have received further cases confirmed, says sports director Jesper Jansson.

Think it's a mutation

He says that most players have mild symptoms.

- But it is obviously a very contagious variant.

Our team doctors consider it very likely that it is a mutation of the virus that we got into the squad given the rapid course, which is something we are trying to confirm, says Jansson.

Focus on stopping the spread

At present, there is no information on when the business can be resumed.

- Right now, our focus is entirely on stopping the spread of infection, and on the health of our players and employees.

The next phase is about safely resuming operations, both from a purely health aspect for those who have been ill, as well as in terms of ensuring that the virus is kept away in the future, says Jesper Jansson.
