Shortly after the new year, Caris LeVert (26 years old) was detected a cancerous mass in the left kidney.

It was during his medical tests in Indiana, after leaving Brooklyn as part of the operation that ended

James Harden

on the Nets.

Maybe that transfer saved his life.

The malignant cyst that forced him to undergo surgery on January 26.

Caris had played his last game on January 12 and last night, 46 days after his intervention, dressed in the colors of the Pacers, he stepped on a basketball court again.

"I always saw the light at the end of the tunnel," recognized LeVert excitedly, after scoring 13 points in 27 minutes, during the victory over the Suns (111-122).

In the Indiana dispatches, despite the detection of the tumor, they went ahead with the transfer, fully convinced of LeVert's capabilities, who had averaged 18.5 points and 27.8 minutes per game with the Nets.

Last night, on the court in Phoenix, everyone celebrated a victory with double value.

Beyond classification, Caris had overcome cancer.

"A month and a half ago, I think I did not even know if I was going to be here. Especially so soon. I am very grateful and happy to be on track again," admitted LeVert, who had received medical and sports discharge a few days ago , after leaving behind a renal cell carcinoma.

It was his debut for Indiana, which sent

Victor Oladipo

to Houston in that multi-way operation that led to the landing of the shooting guard.

Nate Bjorkgren, his coach, put him in the starting lineup: "It was great to see him back. The players, they really enjoyed being there and seeing the things he can do."

LeVert left with 13 points in 27 minutes (5/14 shooting from the field, 0/4 3-pointers, 7 rebounds and 2 assists) and a grin from ear to ear.

"The main thing for me was trying to contribute to a victory. Today was perhaps the second time that I do five against five since everything happened, so my legs felt a bit heavy. But that will come back," he acknowledged.

LeVert will be a great help for

Domantas Sabonis

, who led the Pacers with a triple-double: 22 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Also for

Doug McDermott

(22 points): "Just having him out there was amazing. We are all very happy for him."
