The German Maximilian Schachmann (Bora), outgoing winner, won Paris-Nice for the second time on Sunday in the 8th stage fatal to the world number one, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic.

Roglic, weakened by two falls, found himself alone in the last stage taken in Levens (Alpes-Maritimes) by the Dane Magnus Cort (EF Education).

Schachmann takes advantage of the offering

The Slovenian had already lost the Tour de France late last year.

He had given up his yellow jersey to Slovenian Tadej Pogacar on the eve of the finish, in the time trial at La Planche des Belles Filles, when he seemed to have won the race.

Three days after his first fall, Roglic found himself on the ground again, but with more serious consequences.

25 kilometers from the finish, the Slovenian was left behind by the peloton.

Helped at first by his teammates, he tried to make up the delay on his own before losing and finishing more than three minutes.

Primoz Roglic is in trouble!

The yellow jersey, which seems to have fallen twice, may be losing Paris-Nice.

Virtually, he points to nearly 20 seconds from Maximilian Schachmann!

In the finish sprint, Cort preceded the French Christophe Laporte, already second last Friday, and Pierre Latour, at the end of the 93 kilometers of this shortened and modified stage due to the confinement of Nice and its surroundings.

In the final standings, Schachmann preceded two riders from the Astana team, Russian Aleksandr Vlasov, second at 19 seconds, and Spaniard Ion Izagirre, third at 23 seconds.
