Former American boxer 'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler, former world middleweight champion, died at the age of 66 at his home in New Hampshire (United States), his wife has confirmed.

Hagler dominated weight since 1979, but was dethroned after a controversial loss to fellow American
Sugar Ray Leonard
in April 1987. The New Jersey southpaw was knocked down only once during his professional career and defended his middleweight crown 12 times. .
In September 1980, Hagler fought Alan Minter at Wembley Stadium, winning by 'KO' in the third round after the British boxer suffered a bad cut to claim his first world title.

at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where he won three brutal 'rounds' of a match that became known as 'The War'.
Hagler faced Leonard in April 1987, a boxer who had twice retired and had not fought for nearly three years.
Leonard won by split decision and withdrew immediately after, and Hagler was denied a rematch.
Hagler retired from boxing in June 1988, with a record of 62 wins, two draws and three losses.
