American boxing legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler, who dominated the middleweight class in the '80s, has died at the age of 66, his wife, Kay Hagler, announced on Saturday (March 13th). 

The cause of death was not yet known.

The TMZ website reported that the former boxer was taken to a New Hampshire hospital on Saturday, complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing. 

Marvin Hagler, who changed his name to Marvelous in 1982, dominated the middleweight class until his controversial 1987 loss to Sugar Ray Leonard. 

“I'm sorry to bring you sad news. Today, unfortunately, my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin unexpectedly passed away in his New Hampshire home. Our family ask you to respect their privacy in these difficult times,” wrote Kay Hagler in a post on Marvin Hagler's fan club page on Facebook. 

Considered one of the greatest champions in the discipline, Hagler has only been knocked down once in 67 professional fights and 52 of his victories have been achieved by knockout.
