Hampus Wanne was a great success when Sweden took World Cup silver in January and after the championship he has continued to deliver in the club team.

When it is now time for Olympic qualifiers, Sweden will be forced to do without Wanne.

On Friday morning, the news came that he was leaving the squad just hours before the qualifying match against Germany.

- It feels really hard not to be able to play the Olympic qualifier that I had been looking forward to for so long, but as the situation is right now, I need more at home.

It is not fun to put the team in this situation, but I have received good support and understanding from both the players and the leaders and I believe and hope that they fix an Olympic place, says Hampus Wanne in a press release.

Has called in a replacement

Emil Mellegård has been called in as a substitute and it is hoped that he will be able to participate in this afternoon's match.

Mellegård has tested negative for covid-19 during the week and if he tests negative again on arrival in Berlin, he can join the squad.

- We showed in January that we were very good at dealing with and tackling the setbacks and problems that arose along the way and I am convinced that we will solve this in a good way as well.

Lucas Pellas showed in the World Cup what a fantastically good player he is and if we have time to get Emil ready for today's match, we will have a very good replacement there as well, says national team captain Glenn Solberg.

Sweden-Germany starts at 15.15.
