Rafael Nadal decided on Thursday not to play in Dubai next week because of his back injury.

The twenty-time Grand Slam winner withdrew earlier for the same reason for the tournaments in Rotterdam and Acapulco.

Nadal sustained the back injury at the beginning of this year and therefore missed the ATP Cup in Australia.

He was able to participate in the Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Stéfanos Tsitsipás.

At the tournament in Dubai, the organization had reserved a wild card for the number two in the world rankings, who did not play since his defeat against Tsitsipás.

However, 34-year-old Nadal does not feel ready for a return.

"I would like to thank the tournament in Dubai for the invitation. We have seriously thought about it, but I think I am not quite ready to play yet," he writes on Twitter.

The next event where Nadal could make his return is the Miami ATP tournament.

The first games in the US state of Florida will be played on March 24.

On May 17, Roland Garros starts, the Grand Slam that Nadal has already won thirteen times.
