A medical commission looked on Monday on the last hours of the idol of Argentine football, Diego Maradona.

She will try to answer the questions of justice on possible criminal responsibilities.

The conclusions of the commission made up of ten experts, including forensic pathologists who performed the autopsy and specialists from various medical disciplines, and ten representatives of the parties are expected within two to three weeks.

Two of Maradona's daughters point to officials

The public prosecutor of San Isidro, in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires, had opened an investigation after the death of the ex-champion adulated of a heart problem on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 in his residence de Tigre, north of the capital.

The statements of two of Maradona's five daughters, Gianinna (31) and Jana (24), pointing to neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque as responsible for their father's deteriorating state of health, had triggered legal proceedings.

The investigation has since sought to determine a possible negligence or recklessness in the medical treatment administered to the famous Argentine number 10, world champion 1986. It could lead to indictments for non-assistance to a person in danger or manslaughter, prosecution punished in Argentina from five to fifteen years of imprisonment.

Seven people at the heart of the investigation

The investigation focuses on seven people: the neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, the psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, a psychologist, two nurses (a man and a woman) at Maradona's bedside, as well as the coordinator of these nurses and a coordinating doctor of the home hospitalization.

Questioned at the end of February, Gianinna and Jana "designated Cosachov, Luque and the psychologist (Carlos) Diaz as treating physicians", revealed the nurse's lawyer, present at the hearing.

"It is very clear that they were the ones who decided the treatment", insisted Mr. Rodolfo Baqué.

“The last time Gianinna visited Maradona, she noticed that he was very swollen.

In the weeks preceding his death, he presented both physical and cognitive deterioration, ”added the lawyer.

Operated in early November 2020 for a hematoma on the head, "el pibe de oro" (the golden kid) died a few weeks later as a result of "secondary acute pulmonary edema and exacerbated chronic heart failure", according to the autopsy.

Diego Maradona's life has been punctuated by many health problems, some of which are linked to excesses of all kinds which have sometimes made him flirt with death.
