A thirst for revenge for a historic debacle

A year ago, the confrontation between Sochi and Rostov would not have aroused increased interest among the fans.

The Sochi team made their debut in the RPL only last season and barely retained their residence in the elite division.

However, in the current draw of the Russian championship, Vladimir Fedotov's wards are no less fighting for medals.

At the beginning of the year, the team not only knocked Krasnodar out of the Russian Cup, but also defeated Arsenal, which allowed it to rise to third place in the national championship standings.

In turn, “Rostov” had the opportunity not only to catch up with the opponent, but also to take revenge on him for the historic defeat in June with a score of 1:10.

Then, on the eve of the Southern derby, an outbreak of coronavirus occurred in the yellow-blue camp, and they asked Sochi residents to postpone the match, but they refused.

As a result, the youth team actually went to the game.

In the first round, Valery Karpin's charges failed to take revenge.

At the Fisht stadium, they were defeated - 2: 4.

The confrontation was further adhered to by the fact that many Sochi players had previously played for Rostov: Soslan Dzhanaev, Ivan Novoseltsev, Mikha Mevlya, Christian Noboa, Ivelin Popov.

However, in the reporting game, it was also difficult for the hosts to claim victory, since they suffered a number of sensitive losses.

For various reasons, Maxim Osipenko, Kento Hashimoto, Pavel Mamaev, Matias Normann and Khoren Bayramyan missed the meeting.

Karpin had to experiment.

So, a pair of Dennis Hadzhikadunich in the center of defense was Haitam Aleesami.

And in the middle of the field are 18-year-old Armin Gigovich, 22-year-old newcomer of the team Georgy Makhatadze and 21-year-old Danil Glebov.

Active start of "Rostov"

It seemed that Rostov, having lost several leaders, would not look very convincing.

However, in fact, the hosts started the match very actively and literally crushed the opponent with high pressure from the first minutes.

In fact, Karpin's wards did not allow the guests to go on the attack.

Their possession of the ball often ended in their own half of the field, and the flanks did not work at all.

The footballers of "Rostov", having made another selection, tried to immediately organize a dangerous attack.

So, in the fifth minute, the team's newcomer Ali Sow almost scored.

The Gambian received a pass in the penalty area and almost from the goalkeeper's line shot into the far corner, but Soslan Dzhanaev saved Sochi.

Following Almqvist from an acute angle did not hit the target after the throw of Alexei Kozlov.

Finally, after half an hour of the game, the same Swede, having received a wonderful pass from Sow in the penalty area, let the projectile go far away from him and allowed Dzhanaev to pick it up.

However, closer to the middle of the first half, the game leveled off.

The hosts' starting fuse gradually dried up, and the guests began to take the ball under their control much more often and move to someone else's half of the field.

However, they created their most dangerous moments using their signature weapon - the play of set pieces.

So, after the filing of Christian Noboa from the right flank, Anton Zabolotny hit the post.

And the most memorable episode occurred shortly before the whistle for a break.

After another cross from the right edge, Sergei Pesyakov made a mistake at the exit and only corrected the ball in the direction of Sergei Terekhov with his fist.

A defender from outside the penalty area calmly hit an empty target.

But the judge Vasily Kazartsev, after a meeting with his colleagues at VAR, rightly canceled the goal.

The fact is that after Terekhov's kick, the ball hit Ivan Miladinovich, who was lying on the goal line.

The Serb not only was in an offside position, but also played with his hand.

The fighting spirit of "Sochi"

The second half turned out to be much less rich in dangerous moments.

More precisely, there were practically none.

Returning from the locker room, the Sochi players started the game more actively.

They still relied mainly on serving from the right, where Noboa regularly moved, in the direction of Zabolotny.

A couple of times Anton even managed to hit the goal.

After another riding duel, the attacker received a head cut.

Doctors helped the striker for a couple of minutes, and he returned to the field bandaged.

After that, the initiative was seized by "Rostov".

In addition, Karpin refreshed the line of attack, releasing Roman Tugarev and Vladimir Obukhov instead of the tired Makhatadze and Dmitry Poloz.

But the period of activity of the yellow-blue was very short.

They did not threaten the gates of Dzhanaev at all, and Sow practically did not meet with the ball.

20 minutes before the end of regular time, the score on the cuts was leveled.

Noboa, after filing a partner, tried to strike through himself almost from the goalkeeper's line and kicked Hadzhikadunich on the head.

As a result, the Ecuadorian received a yellow card, and the Swede was forced to continue the game in a hat so that the bandage would not slip on his face.

In the end, “Rostov” again managed to take the ball under their control, but, as before, the game went on with practically no shots on the other's goal.

Vladimir Fedotov responded to the opponent's activity with three substitutions at once.

Alexander Rudenko, Marko Dugandzhich and Nikita Burmistrov appeared on the field.

The coach obviously did not guess with the last castling.

Already in the time added by the referee, the striker hit Aleesami on the leg, for which he received a yellow card from Kazartsev.

However, after watching the replay, the referee changed his mind and removed the player, believing that he could injure the opponent.

Thus, on the eve of an important meeting with Lokomotiv, Sochi was left without four important players: Burmistrov, Noboa, Zabolotny and Terekhov.

The last three will receive a disqualification for busting yellow cards.

And the Southern derby between the teams ended in a draw for the first time in history.

Sochi did not manage to extend the winning streak in the confrontation with a principled opponent, but they retained their third place.

In the event of a victory over Krasnodar, only Spartak will be able to get ahead of them at the end of the round.
