It was Kenya's anti-doping organization that investigated the 29-year-old's testimony and found that the police had no information about such a car accident and that Jepkosgei had forged the documents she presented as evidence.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has now decided to suspend her for three years for the incident.

Won two Diamond League competitions

It was last year in March that Jepkosgei was not at home when the doping controllers knocked on the door.

Jepkosgei has not competed since 2019 because she was in the process of changing her nationality from Kenya to Bahrain.

She would start competing for Bahrain in August, but her suspension means that she will miss the Olympics in Tokyo this summer and the World Cup in Eugene 2022.

She won two Diamond League competitions in 2019.
