The Champions League round of 16 second leg between Liverpool and Leipzig will take place, like the first leg, in Budapest, Hungary, due to travel restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, the March 4 announced on Thursday. UEFA.

Had the match been in England, the Leipzig team would have had to observe a strict ten-day quarantine on their return, in line with guidelines from German authorities to curb the spread of the British variant of the coronavirus.

The match remains set for March 10 (8 p.m. GMT).

In the first leg, Leipzig lost 2-0 to the Reds.

Manchester City - Mönchengladbach will take place in England

The other round of 16 return between German and English clubs, which will pit Manchester City against Mönchengladbach, whose first leg was also held in Budapest, should take place in England.

The match will take place on March 16 and in the first leg City had won 2-0.

This difference in treatment is explained by the health rules for German residents returning from abroad, which vary from one German region to another.

The change of scenery from other matches was also announced by UEFA on Thursday, including the round of 16 second leg between Norwegians Molde and Spaniards Granada, which will also be played in Budapest on 18 March.

National team matches are not spared.

Portugal-Azerbaijan on March 24, as part of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, will be held in Turin, while Norway-Turkey on March 27 has been moved to Spain.

These announcements come as the debate on the organization of Euro-2021 this summer (initially scheduled for 2020) has been revived by the British proposal to host more matches.

The European country most affected by the pandemic, the United Kingdom is also the one where the vaccination campaign is the most advanced, with 20 million people who have received at least one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

"We are ready to host any other matches they want to see happen," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in an interview with The Sun on Tuesday.

"If there are other matches they want to see organized, we are ready to host them, but for now, it is UEFA that is in charge," he added.

But, for the moment, UEFA is sticking to its plan to organize meetings in 12 cities: London - where the semi-finals and the final will take place in particular -, Glasgow, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Saint- Petersburg, Bilbao, Munich, Budapest, Baku, Rome and Bucharest.
