After the WC in Seefeld 2019, the Finnish Riitta-Liisa Roponen thought she had done her part in the national team.

Then she was 40 years old - today, when she made her competition debut in Oberstdorf, she is 42 years old.

In May she will be 43.

And it was a success.

Just 37 seconds from medal and beating names like Pärmäkoski, Weng and Brennan.

Finished as best Finnish

- It's absolutely fantastic, I'm so happy.

In Seefeld I cried with disappointment, now I cry tears of joy.

I received so many incredible congratulations yesterday, I'm just so proud to be here and get the maximum dividend, says a happy Roponen to Svenska Yle.

Krista Pärmäkoski, 30, had high hopes - but it was Roponen who was the best.

The 42-year-old finished as the best Finnish in tenth place - only 37 seconds from the medals.

- The skis worked well, the guys did a huge job yesterday when they tested sixteen pairs for me, she says.

Roponen has previously participated in eight World Cups and five Olympics.

Today she stepped into her 14th championship.
