Due to the prevailing corona restrictions in Norway, the Birkebeinerrennet is canceled.

The empty gap in the calendar is instead filled by Vålådalsrennet.

- Vålådalen will be decorated as a stadium in Birken.

In this way, there will still be a small part of Birken again this year, but on Swedish soil, hence the name Vålådalsrennet, says Eirik Torbjörnsen, CEO of Birkenbeinerrennet, to Ski classic's website.

Vålådalsrennet has only been open to those who compete in Ski classics and elite skiers who meet certain criteria.

The track will be 54 kilometers and have a similar profile as Birken.

- We have worked hard to find a replacement. Considering that Årefjällsloppet will take place there the following week, there are many who do not need an extra trip and can stay as isolated as possible, says David Nilsson, CEO of Ski Classics.
