Jonas Svensson returns to AZ's match selection against Feyenoord on Sunday.

The right back has recovered from a leg injury that kept him out of the way for three months.

"He has had good first days of training with the group", said interim trainer Pascal Jansen, who also saw Dani de Wit return from the infirmary.

"I complimented our medical staff. Jonas and Dani have worked very hard on their recovery and are available again ahead of schedule to help the team."

Svensson was injured on November 29 in the won away match against Heracles Almelo (1-2).

The Norwegian, who has been a fixture in Alkmaar since his arrival in 2017, made his return to the training field two weeks ago.

It is not yet clear whether Calvin Stengs will return to AZ against Feyenoord.

The attacker was missing from the Alkmaarders in recent weeks due to illness.

According to the

Noordhollands Dagblad

, Stengs was infected with the corona virus, but that has not been confirmed by AZ.

"He had recovery training today. We don't know yet whether he can train in a group again on Saturday," Jansen said.

"In any case, we are happy that he is just back on the field, which is positive anyway."

'Is a great match to come'

Jansen says he can look forward to the game against Feyenoord with confidence.

AZ has already won three games in a row and can consolidate third place in the Eredivisie against the team from Rotterdam.

"Feyenoord has good players, we have those too. If you take that into account, you know that there may be a great match to come."

In January AZ won 2-3 at Feyenoord.

"We played a good match in Rotterdam. We were on the ball well, had things organized defensively and made the goals at the right moments. It would be fantastic if we could repeat this on Sunday."

AZ-Feyenoord will be the battle between the numbers three and four of the Eredivisie on Sunday.

The game in the AFAS Stadium in Alkmaar is led by referee Björn Kuipers and starts at 4.45 pm.
