There are just over four months left until the European Football Championship kicks off.

But there is still speculation about how many countries will actually host that championship.

Football journalist Tancredi Palmeri wrote on Twitter:

"The European Championship 2021 will very likely be played in England.

Uefa chooses a host country and England is the country that is best located.

The decision will be made in mid-April ", wrote Palmeri.

"Incorrect"

But the chairman of the Swedish Football Association, Karl-Erik Nilsson, rejects the information.

- No, that's not true.

There has been a lot of speculation throughout the pandemic.

Everything from these twelve host countries down to one host nation.

But UEFA's focus is on the twelve world cities, Nilsson tells SVT Sport.

In mid-October last year, Aleksander Ceferin, president of the European Football Association, went out and said that it would open up to reduce the number of organizers.

- The plan is that we carry out the European Championships exactly according to plan, but I must say that instead of twelve countries, it can be the European Championships in eleven, eight, five or one country, he then said to Spanish Movistar +.

"Challenges with twelve host countries"

Karl Erik Nilsson once again believes that this is not the case.

- Uefa has never flagged for anything other than twelve countries.

However, there has been a lot of speculation - almost every week, he tells SVT Sport.

But the SvFF chairman also says that the concept of twelve host countries is a challenge - it was a challenge even before the pandemic.

- It is a very big challenge to work with twelve different hosts for one and the same championship.

Then when there was a pandemic, the challenges became even greater.

I would be surprised if you come back to this type of concept in the future.
