The goalkeeper of the Portuguese handball team as well as of FC Porto, Alfredo Quintana, is no more.

“The message that we never thought to share: our dear Alfredo Quintana is gone today,” shared his club on social networks.

The Portuguese international suffered cardiac arrest in training on Monday before being transferred to São João hospital in Porto.

His state of health had remained precarious since then.

Born in Havana, he arrived in Portugal in 2011 to sign for FC Porto, where he won the national championship six times.

With the selection, he distinguished himself by being part of the team which finished 6th in the Euro de hand 2020.
