SG director: Neymar's contract extension is on the right track

The sports director of Paris Saint-Germain, the Brazilian French soccer champions, Leonardo, confirmed today that the negotiations of the capital club to renew the contract of its star and compatriot Neymar are moving "on the right path", while talks continue with the other star Kylian Mbappe.

"As for Neymar, we are on the right path," said Leonardo, in response to a question on "France Blue Paris" radio regarding the possibility of extending the two gems to their contracts, which expire in June 2022, while several media outlets announced that an agreement had been reached with the Brazilian international.

He added, "Things are going on the right path, but in the end, the contract is completed when it is signed, and the matter has not yet been completed."

Mbappe's situation appears less advanced.

"We have been talking. For a long time we have been talking. It is always clearer. We will reach the moment when we have to take a stand, make a decision. I think we are getting closer and closer to that moment every time. There is a good openness for dialogue," Leonardo said.

The sports director wanted to emphasize the role of the French star inside the club, after more than a week of his wonderful hat-trick against Barcelona (4-1) in the first leg of the Champions League final eighth round.

"If we look at what he's done since he started in Monaco, it's something very unique and huge. His position in the team is always very important. Kylian really has responsibilities."

Leonardo also confirmed that he wants to extend the contract of two other mainstays in the team, whose contract expires at the end of this season, and it concerns Argentine Angel Di Maria and Spain's Juan Bernat.

"The idea is to resolve the matter as soon as possible. We intend to renew the contracts of the four (including Neymar and Mbappe)," he said.
