The spell is broken.

The first German top sports official has spoken out in favor of preferential vaccination for athletes.

The message from Canoe Association President Thomas Konietzko was: If German athletes should not have to accept any disadvantages at the Summer Olympics this year, they must be able to travel to Tokyo immune to the corona virus.

That’s at least one thing: honest.

Konietzko has expressed what many grandees of sport may wish for, but not dare to express themselves out of political correctness and social reasoning.

Bayern Munich's chairman of the board, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, announced this a few days ago, but after a storm of indignation withdrew behind the front, saying that he had been misunderstood.

This is exactly what everyone, whether club boss, association boss or IOC president, should have in mind: Give my group priority so that they can carry out their tasks without restrictions.

A comprehensible request.

Every citizen willing to vaccinate would rather get the spades today than tomorrow in order to be able to cope with their everyday life a bit more carefree.

Still, the advance from sport is extremely problematic.

It's not about citizens, but ultimately only about business.

According to the will of functionaries like Konietzko, society should come to an agreement on what it is worth to them to prefer athletes in the vaccination sequence so that they can be sent to the Olympics in a promising way.

Provided with the footnote as a fig leaf that of course all endangered groups must first be immunized.

But that's only one thing: cynical.

It is basically the exchange of a life or the consequences of a corona illness for a nice starting place.

Everyone knows that the mostly between 20 and 30-year-old athletes in Germany would most likely only have their turn after the summer games, which ended at the beginning of August.

So now a few hundred bottles of BNT162b2 from Biontech / Pfizer so that you can live carefree with tens of thousands of other athletes from South Africa or England in the Olympic Village and compete with athletes from China or Russia who have already been vaccinated.

The German vaccination marathon, which was run with great effort, was taken as a deposit for a neat 100-meter sprint in Tokyo's Olympic Stadium.

Whoever calls for this discussion rises above morality, the weak, and also above integrity or death.

In days when the Union and the SPD want to tighten penalties for vaccinators to up to 25,000 euros in order to emphasize the law on the continued validity of the regulations on the epidemic situation of national scope, the advance from sport is involuntarily funny.

Their organizations are fighting for their image because of doping, corruption, gigantism and a lack of humility.

The call for a nice placement in the row of the vaccinated is therefore also one thing: an attack on the credibility of the sport.
