As recently as a week ago, the decision was hammered out that the Euromeeting competition in the Czech Republic will be decided as planned.

The Swedish national team captain Håkan Carlsson was happy with the decision, and said on Orienteringsmagasinet's website that it is "very important to have the opportunity to compete in terrain similar to the one waiting for the World Cup".

"Do not travel unnecessarily"

Now, however, one of the biggest Swedish stars has decided to stand over the competition.

“As the infection situation looks right now in both the Czech Republic, Sweden, and in the rest of Europe, it is important that we take our responsibility and work to break the chains of infection and not travel unnecessarily.

It is not an easy decision to make, because the World Cup preparations are important and I am already behind in that planning, but as the situation is now, I do not want to be involved and contribute to an increased spread of infection (which inevitably happens with travel, competitions and joint training camp, no matter how much action you take) ”, he writes on social media.

The World Orienteering Championships will be decided in the Czech Republic in May.
