Wednesday.

The attacker of Ajax signs for 3.5 years with the club where he was also under contract between 2014 and 2018.

It is not clear what amount Ajax will receive for Promes, which was taken over from Seville for more than 15 million euros in the summer of 2019.

Thanks to bonuses, that amount could rise to more than 17 million euros.

The transfer of 29-year-old Promes had been coming for a while.

For that reason, the born Amsterdammer no longer belonged to the selection of Ajax coach Erik ten Hag in the last few weeks.

Promes' return to Russia was somewhat delayed due to the private situation of the 47-time Orange international, who was arrested in December on suspicion of involvement in a stabbing.

He is now free again, but still a suspect in that case, which made Spartak a bit hesitant.

"We do not want a possible criminal case on our plate," said Sparta director Yavgeny Melezhikov at the beginning of this month.

"We are now talking about this with Ajax and have offered various options."

Promes was successful at Spartak

Now that an agreement has been reached, Promes returns to the club where he impressed between 2014 and 2018.

At the time, the former Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente player scored 66 goals and 33 assists in 135 official games.

Here one celebrated league title.

In his period of eighteen months with Ajax, Promes was also predominantly important.

In the shirt of the team from Amsterdam, he scored 22 goals and gave an assist six times in 53 duels.

In the past winter transfer period, Ajax already responded to a departure from Promes by renting Oussama Idrissi from Seville.

The Russian transfer market closes on Thursday.
