Nigerian striker from Naples Victor Osimhen was transported Sunday evening to a hospital in Bergamo, where he will remain under surveillance until Monday, after a head shock at the end of the match against Atalanta (2-4), announced his club.

Osimhen was very quickly evacuated on a stretcher in the 90th minute after his head hit the ground following a duel with a Bergamasque defender.

Brief loss of consciousness

Very shaken, the Nigerian striker of 22 years would have briefly lost consciousness but he had regained his senses during the trip to the hospital where he took exams, according to Sky Sport, the broadcaster of the meeting, and the Italian agency ANSA.

The player suffers from a head trauma but the first examinations were rather reassuring, according to a press release from the club in the evening.

"The player will remain in Bergamo until tomorrow under the clinical observation of the health manager" of the club, added Napoli.

No player or the coach of Naples spoke after the match, the club having imposed a media silence on its employees, after a defeat which takes it away from its priority objective: one of the first four places synonymous with qualification for the Champions League.

Star rookie last summer from Lille, Osimhen returned to the pitch at the end of January after more than two months of absence due to a shoulder injury and the coronavirus.

The Nigerian, despite a promising start to the season, has so far only scored two goals for Napoli.
