Get to know the first Syrian player to score in the Champions League

German newspaper "Tag Zeitung" praised Borussia Dortmund player Mahmoud Daoud as the first Syrian player to make his mark in the European Champions League, after he scored for his team against Seville in the most important tournaments of the continent, in a match that Dortmund won 3 to 2 goals.

The newspaper stated, "Daoud, who holds dual Syrian and German nationalities, became the first Syrian player to score a goal in the Champions League."

The newspaper shed light on the player's career and successes since he came from the city of Amuda in the Syrian province of Hasaka to Germany with his family in 1996, before he in 2014 made his first match with Borussia Monchengladbach, and followed it by moving in the summer of 2017 to his current club Borussia Dortmund with a deal worth 12 million euros, and the Syrian player won the German Super Cup in 2019 with his new team, after defeating Bayern Munich.

Mahmoud Daoud previously represented the German U-21 national team, won the European Championship in Poland in 2014, and played 32 games in the German League, 3 matches in the Super Cup, and 6 matches in the European Champions League.
