The Dutch basketball players qualified for a European Championship for the first time in seven years on Saturday.

The Orange won the penultimate European Championship qualifying match in Croatia (57-65) and is therefore certain of participation in the European Championship in 2022.

The team of Italian national coach Maurizio Buscaglia already led 35-27 in Istanbul at half time and did not give up that lead in the future.

Yannick Franke was the big man on the side of the Netherlands with fifteen points.

The Netherlands is second in group D with one group match to go. The numbers one, two and three qualify for the European Championship of 2022, which will be held in Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy.

Orange last played at the European Championship in 2015.

Then it was the first time in 25 years that the Dutch basketball players were active in a European championship.

After one victory, the Netherlands finished in 25th place.

The Netherlands will close the European Championship qualifying series on Monday with a match against Sweden at the bottom.

For the Scandinavian country there is still a European Championship ticket at stake, although it must be won from the Netherlands and number three Turkey lose.

The placement of the basketball players follows two weeks after the missed European Championship placement of the Dutch basketball players.

The team of national coach Hakim Salem lost in and against Slovakia and thus missed the ticket for the European Championship 31 years after the last participation.
