The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, clearly beaten by Daniil Medvedev on Friday in the semi-final of the Australian Open, assured that he would "not be surprised" if the Russian won the title Sunday against Novak Djokovic.

“I wouldn't be surprised to see Daniil win the tournament,” Tsitsipas (22) told a press conference, stressing that he is not “an online betting site”.

"He has the same service as John Isner"

“I had played Rafa (Nadal) here two years ago and found him absolutely phenomenal.

I was 100% convinced he was going to win the tournament.

But ultimately I was wrong.

So who knows?

», He recalled.

In 2019, Nadal inflicted a 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 on Tsitsipas in the semifinals, before being in turn beaten in three sets in the final by Djokovic.

"I took a lot of experience."

Still, Tsitsipas was able to see at his expense that Medvedev was currently playing at a very high level.

“He reads the game very well, he has an incredible service which is close to that of John Isner (the great American server, editor's note).

But he's also very strong on his baseline, which makes him very difficult to play, ”said the Greek player.

"You are fooled by his game"

“Even if you manage to return his serve, you are not sure you will win the point, you really have to fight for it,” he added.

“He is reaping the rewards of all the hard work and hours spent on the court: you get fooled by his very intelligent game.

So it will be very interesting ”to see him in the final against Djokovic, unbeaten in the eight finals in Melbourne, concluded Tsitsipas.
