Daniil Medvedev qualified in the final of the Australian Open, to the good memory of his illustrious predecessors Marat Safin and Ievgeny Kafelnikov.

The Russian defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas who this time could not do anything to turn the tide, despite an interesting third round.

The Greek, who beat Nadal in the quarterfinals, was beaten 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 in 2:09.

Medvedev offers himself a second Grand Slam final after the one lost in 2019 at the US Open against Rafa.

The task will not be easier this time since he will have Novak Djokovic facing him on Sunday.

“It wasn't easy, but I'm happy to have managed to recover, especially at some tense moments on my serve, and I'm very happy to be in the final,” he said.

He is guaranteed to climb for the first time on the podium of the world hierarchy on Monday, and could even climb to second place if he beats Novak Djokovic in the final.
