The stars of the Dubai Rally take on the challenge of the 2021 edition today

The Dubai Desert Rally, which is the first rally in the Desert Rally World Cup to be organized using sustainable solar energy, begins today, as part of the partnership between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization.

Elite drivers will enter the challenge of launching the 2021 edition, the first phase of which will be held today in the Al Qudra desert, along with other stages in the Al Marmoom desert.

Emirati drivers Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi and Saudi Yazid Al Rajhi, who came last month from a fruitful participation in the famous Dakar Rally, lead the list of 93 drivers from 12 countries, competing for the title (Baja Dubai 2021), the second round in the world championship, and the inaugural world cycling championship.

In a press statement, the managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, praised the efforts of the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization, headed by Mohammed bin Sulayem, in the field of sustainability, and its keenness to organize the rally using clean energy, while Bin Sulayem praised the efforts of the Electricity and Water Authority Dubai aims to increase the percentage of renewable and clean energy in the energy mix in Dubai, and its keenness to support young people, and to provide an environment that encourages creativity and innovation, as well as to involve them in the sustainable development process.

The riders list includes South African Aaron Mir, winner of last year's title on a Honda bike, compatriot Mark Ackerman, winner of the 2017 title on Husqvarna, and Emirati cyclist Sultan Al Balushi on board (KTM).
