Dubai Rally ... the first world championship to be held using solar energy

The Dubai Desert Rally announced, in a statement, that the rally has entered world records, as the first event to be held within the rounds of the World Cup of Desert Rally Championship, using sustainable solar energy, when it launches, tomorrow, the 2021 edition, which will be held until next Saturday, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, in partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and is the second round in the World Desert Rally Championship «Cross Country» for cars, and the inaugural season of motorcycles.

The rally, held under the supervision of the Emirates Automobile and Motorcycle Organization, is located at the innovation center of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, located in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, before the participants set out to challenge the desert tracks of the Al Qudra and Al Marmoom areas in Dubai, over a period of two days. From the competitions, the identity of the 2021 champions will be determined.

The managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Al Tayer, said: “DEWA is working to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to diversify Energy sources, and the provision of 75% of the energy production capacity in Dubai from clean energy sources by 2025. ”

He added: “We are pleased to support the organization of the World Desert Rally Championship, in an event that is held for the first time in the world using solar energy, and is based in the Innovation Center in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, which is a global platform for renewable and clean energy innovations, and contributes to enhancing the energy future. Sustainable development in Dubai and beyond ».

"The use of this facility means that the electrical energy provided to the main rally headquarters and the maintenance and service center is being generated by sustainable solar energy," said Mohammed bin Sulayem, President of the Emirates Automobile and Motorcycle Organization, Vice President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
