The Dubai Desert Rally will set records as the first rally in the World Cup Desert Rally Championship to be held using sustainable solar energy.

This major development comes as a result of the new partnership between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the Emirates Motor and Motorcycle Organization.

The Dubai Rally 2021 will be held at the DEWA Innovation Center, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

It is noteworthy that the rally is witnessing the participation of the elite drivers in the world of various groups, including the champion of the UAE Khaled Al Qasimi, aboard a car (Abu Dhabi Racing Peugeot 3008 DKR Team), and the competitions will be held between the 18th and 21st of this month.

Saeed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said in a press statement that the partnership comes within the framework of the authority's continuous efforts to enhance Dubai's position as one of the leading cities in developing the renewable and clean energy sector.

On the other hand, President of the Emirates Automobile and Motorcycle Organization and Vice President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for Sports, Mohammed Bin Sulayem, said that the use of this facility means that the electric energy provided to the main rally headquarters and maintenance and service center is generated by sustainable solar energy.

"None of this would have been possible without the Dubai government's rational support for our sport and its leadership in the field of sustainability," he added.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world, according to the independent product system.

Its production capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030, with a total investment of 50 billion dirhams.
