The Japan Sumo Association and Sumida Ward, Tokyo, have begun to consider inoculating the new coronavirus vaccination together with their masters, wrestlers, and residents at the Kokugikan in both countries.

According to Sumida Ward, Tokyo, this month, the Japan Sumo Association proposed that the Kokugikan of both countries should be used as a venue for vaccination, and discussions began.

According to the plan being considered by the Sumo Association and the ward, vaccinations will be given on a limited number of days after avoiding the days when events are held at the Kokugikan such as the main place of sumo wrestling. Inhabitants of the ward, wrestlers and masters with underlying illnesses, and inhabitants of the ward will be targeted in late May.

The specific schedule and inoculation method will be decided in the future.

A spokeswoman for Sumida Ward explained, "I would like to do this as part of an event to get many residents to receive vaccinations."

In addition, the Japan Sumo Association's public relations manager, Shibatayama, said, "The vaccination will start in Japan from the 17th, and I would like to talk about it in detail. I think it's good that everyone's interest is high."
