The 28-year-old Frenchwoman has impressed a lot so far in the World Cup in Pokljuka.

She has taken both silver in the sprint and bronze in the hunt start.

But the top position has its price, and for the mother of small children it is extra high.

Six months ago, she became a mother, and the plan was for her to travel home between the various competitions.

However, this has not been the case.

Due to the strict infection control rules and the framework that elite athletes must adhere to, she has instead been forced to travel from one competition, straight to the other.

- I have been far from my daughter all winter because of corona, that was not the plan.

It is common for me to be away from home but it is difficult, she says.

Can go several weeks at a time

Before today's distance race, it has been two weeks since she last saw her daughter.

- In December I was away from her for three weeks, in January as well.

And it will look the same in March, but I look at pictures several times a day to muffle the lack.

She's so small, so I do not think she understands, but for me it's hard, she says.

Chevalier-Bouchet says that she sacrifices a lot to be where she is today, but that it is a choice she has made and that it is worth it when she gets to stand on the podium.
