In 1958, the then 24-year-old Inger Björnbakken won World Cup gold in slalom in Bad Gastein, Austria.

After the achievement, she reached legendary status among winter athletes in Norway.

- She was a pioneer among our female alpinists and the sporting highlight was World Cup gold in slalom in 1958. She participated in two Olympic games and won a number of Norwegian championships in all disciplines, says Erik Röste to VG.

Björnbakken's son Lars tells the newspaper that the family is proud that their mother is still the only Norwegian woman to have won a World Cup gold in alpine skiing.
