On Thursday, Nils van der Poel took a sensational World Cup gold in the 5000 meters.

The first Swedish World Cup gold in skating since 1976.

Already this afternoon, the 24-year-old can get another medal to hang around his neck when 10,000 meters is decided at the World Championships in Heerenveen, the Netherlands.

Despite van der Poel striking out with a gold on Thursday, it is actually today's distance that is his favorite.

- It will be very fun to walk 10,000 meters and that is what we have prepared for as well as possible.

I think I have very good conditions to go very fast, he said after Thursday's success.

Nils van der Poel starts in pair number three of six.

The competition starts at 15.43.
