David Mobärg, who was second in the qualifiers, and Viktor Andersson, with a World Cup win this year, were the big Swedish jumps on the men's side in the skicross WC.

But when they both drove away early in the competition, another Swede stepped forward.

Erik Mobärg has rehab with a knee injury and has not competed in the World Cup all season but accounted for several impressive heats.

He made it to the final after winning his semifinal and in the tight final, the 23-year-old finally clinched the bronze after a dramatic battle between the riders towards the finish line.

Other Swedes out early

The second in the qualifiers, little brother David Mobärg, was dissatisfied with his competition.

- Useless.

I had the second fastest time on this track.

I will not go out this early, he told SVT Sport after the quarterfinals.

Both Viktor Andersson and the Swedish surprise Fredrik Nilsson, 18, had to thank for themselves immediately after the eighth.

Sandra Näslund won the gold on the women's side.
