In total, Sweden sends 17 skiers to the World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf.

There are nine men and eight women.

This is how national team captain Anders Byström explains the decision to send more men than women.

- It is because the ladies are very all-round and can go to many different races.

That's why we're hiring a master to be able to put the puzzle there.

It's tough on the men's side, we have to find the one that fits best in each race - there will be some more there.

It feels like a well-balanced squad, Byström tells SVT Sport.

This means that ladies with a medal chance can stay at home.

- It is not possible to go that much down there, if you just sit as a reserve.

Then it is better to be at home and focus.

"You get a little sad"

SVT Sports expert Anders Blomquist understands the choice.

But suffers with the riders who are allowed to stay at home.

- It's a little expected.

You get a little sad for the girls who are so good.

At the same time, I understand that there is no place.

It is a well-balanced squad.

Maybe another girl, says Blomquist.

- In sports, there are more girls who deserve to be at a World Cup.

But understand that the puzzle must be solved, there are four places to be filled with the best.

The best girls are very good and will have to ride a lot.
