The combination is an odd format that differs depending on which places and slopes you compete in. The basic concept consists of an initial run in one of the speed disciplines super-G or downhill, and ends with a slalom run.

Hellman believes that many skiers see the alpine combination as a training run on the downhill slope, ahead of the more important speed competitions that await later during the WC.

- They hand in their number plates because they are only there to drive the super-G and get to test on the hill.
