As the election for the head of the French Football Federation looms, Luis Fernandez has rallied the candidacy of former LFP president Frédéric Thiriez and hopes to beat Noël Le Graët, candidate for his own succession.

Guest of Europe 1 on Sunday, the former PSG coach testified to his willingness to help amateur clubs.   

The election for the presidency of the French Football Federation is to be held on March 13.

The former president of the LFP Frédéric Thiriez will be one of the candidates to succeed Noël Le Graët and will be able to count on the rallying of the former international Luis Fernandez.

Invited from Europe 1 on Sunday, the latter expressed his desire to support amateur football in the midst of a crisis.

"They are going to live through difficult times… I want to be with them, to bring my experience."

The difficulties of small clubs have been highlighted by the coronavirus epidemic.

In May, the senator from Nièvre Patrice Joly said that for four years, more than 4,000 clubs had had to cease their activity, especially in rural areas.

The very personality of Frédéric Thiriez convinced Luis Fernandez to give him his support: "It is the man who takes care of organizing the consultation and the exchanges with the old ones", affirms the former coach of Paris Saint- Germain.

Sweeping up the FFF

Luis Fernandez is not stingy with football metaphors to describe the looming campaign.

Noël Le Graët, the current president of the FFF could be reappointed.

"It's going to be a football match, we will have to play it. We announce Mr. Le Graët the winner, so we will try to make a comeback."

He suggests that a change at the head of the association is necessary after nine years of presidency of the former mayor of Guingamp.

He describes in particular favoritism and small arrangements between the leaders of the FFF and certain clubs ... to the detriment of those who do not have their entries within the body.

"Me, I will never accept that", he concludes.
